2.40 r1181-r1185 *memory crash*

Postby karabass » 26 Nov 2012, 07:04

hello all

Problem occurs between all 2.40 r1181 through r1185 revisions.
Don't know if it occurs, in previous than r1181 revisions of 2.40, too.
Problem doesn't exist in 2.30.

OS: archlinux 3.6.7-1 running through wine
Sys memory: 6gb ddr2

Problem Description
Memory consumption increases gradually till Airdc finally crashes.

Cases
1. Airdc idling (no ups or dls but connected in hubs)
2. Airdc dling or upling
3. Airdc refreshing file list

All previous cases occured either when other applications where launched or Airdc was the only one application launched in the system. Tested while 2.40 installed on top of 2.30 and in a clean installation of 2.40 too (using just the HashIndex, HashData and Favorites of 2.30).

A screenshot showing current Airdc's memory consumption at 2.2gb (tab RES). It will increase up to maximum system's availiable memory (6gb) till it crashes.

Which version of Wine are you using? I'm able to run the latest beta on Ubuntu 12.10 with Wine 1.4.1.

Hello maksis.
Thx for your response.
I am using wine's 1.5.18-1 version.
Now i guess that it is a linux related problem and not airdc's bug, since i installed the latest 2.40 on win7 and it worked flawlessly.
Memory consumption was around 350-400mb. No crash.

I'll give a try and downgrade to wine 1.4, to see what happens.
I'll post again.

yep :)

it seems that it was wine problem.
Installed playonlinux (a gui frontend of wine) assigned AirDC to use wine's version 1.4.1 (without removing system' s wine version 1.5.18) and everything is ok. Airdc stays low at 350-400mb, unless it refreshes index where it goes up a little higher than that, but no crashes. The interaction with interface is blazing fast too (clicking on buttons/tabs etc.). I also noticed that in the case where Airdc was using wine 1.5.18, it looked more eyecandy than AirDC using wine 1.4.1. Antialised fonts, higher quality icons etc. but i can live without these.

To sum up:

Airc 2.40 beta using wine 1.5.18:
- Crashes while memory goes to inf.
- Interface less responsive
- Eyecandy

Airc 2.40 beta using wine 1.4.1:
- No crashes
- Interface clicking is fast
- Less eyecandy

That being said, maybe AirDC 2.40 works fine in conjuction with other wine versions between the 1.4.1 and 1.5.18 range too.
Thx again maksis.

Great that you got it solved. You might also want to report that problem on their bug tracker in order to get it fixed.
